Local lenders and real estate professionals maintain optimistic, though cautious, views on property values and mortgage practices in Del Rio and Eagle Pass, despite dire warnings and flourishing foreclosures plaguing most of the country. Border Patrol chief allays fears about intrusive fence

Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Randy Hill addressed Del Rio Rotarians recently, seeking clarified understanding and broad support for his plans to erect no more than five miles of fence in his sprawling area of responsibility along the U.S.-Mexico border. Hill said that penetrations of border security in urban settings are often effected by known, dangerous criminals. To the Rotarians, Hill explained his plans to deal with the issues.
 

Congressman Ciro Rodriguez Meets with USDA in Eagle Pass

Eagle Pass, TX—Congressman Ciro D. Rodriguez (TX-23) today visited Eagle Pass with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Under Secretary for Food Nutrition and Consumer Services Nancy Montanez Johner to discuss the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).  CACFP serves nutritious meals and snacks to eligible children and adults who are enrolled for care at participating child and adult care centers, day care homes, and adult day care centers.

Two U.S. congressmen visited the border Saturday, with discussions culminating at Whitehead Memorial Museum in Del Rio.  About 16 local officials and civic leaders spend time with David Obey, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and his host for the past few days, Rep. Ciro D. Rodriguez.  Rodriguez has been persistent in getting public officials out of their mahogany and walnut-paneled offices in Washington D.C. to get acquainted with a taste of the real world on the U.S.-Mexico border.  In the last year, they have included Rep. David Price, chairman, Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Bob Filner, chairman, Veterans Affairs Committee, and Rep. Nick Rahall, chairman, House Committee on Natural Resources.
