Rep. Ciro D. Rodriguez announces funding for "Head Start" funding in Del Rio Schools.

Dr. Jo McDonald, Australian archeologist and rock art expert, served as Visiting Scholar at the Pecos Experience at Shumla School last week, Oct. 6-11.  McDonald learned about the wealth of Lower Pecos rock art, while sharing her experiences as distinguished adjunct research fellow at Australian National University

The Beginner Salsa Class is designed for people with very little or no experience in salsa dancing.  the fundamentals covered include: rhythm and timing, basic steps or footwork, following & leading techniques, posture, framework and more.

Border Federal Credit Union will be hosting its “5th Annual Youth Financial Summer Camp” on the week of July 14-17, 2008. The primary goal of Border Federal Credit Union’s Youth Financial Camp is to introduce local youth ages 14-18 to the financial service environment. Interested youth must choose the morning session (9:00 a .m. – 1200 noon) or afternoon session (2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.).

The 6th grade campus will be holding a UIL recognition and Music Concert at 7 p.m. on May 13 at the civic center.

More than 300 schoolchildren participated in the first two days of a new educational thrust mounted in Mexico by Shumla School, Comstock. Niños del Rio Bravo got off to a rollicking start with government officials, civic leaders and educators pitching in to build a foundation under the unique hands-on learning activities brought to Acuña by Dr. Carolyn Boyd, her staff and many volunteers from both sides of the border.

(LAREDO, Texas) – A Bryan, Texas, man was sentenced yesterday to 20 years in prison for attempted second-degree murder and discharging a firearm in furtherance of the commission of a violent crime, United States Attorney Don DeGabrielle announced today.

Theme is "Empowering Women" through technology and education, history and tradition, mental and physical health, and kickboxing. Lunch and childcare provided. 8:30 a.m. registration.

There will be two age groups,  6 – 12 and 13 – 18,  with prizes of $100 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place, for the winners in each age group. There is a $15 entry fee.
