LIVE! in Print: September 2006 Issue

By SW TEXAS LIVE - Posted on September 8th, 2006
In our September issue...

LIVE! takes on the Del Rio business community. We found the people who were growing the local economy with their businesses and tell you their story.

Homegrown Businesses: Roots of Del Rio's Cash Crop
Local news is extremely focused on politics and government and doesn’t provide enough focus on business leaders in the community. In Del Rio, business leaders have become more outspoken and organized. That is a sign that Del Rio is growing up. The task of providing entrepreneurial drive for a community is risky financially and extremely difficult to maintain. It is also thankless, whether one fails or succeeds in business. We chose our subjects based upon our editorial judgment, in order of priority, of reader interest, impact on the community (whether in revenue or civic leadership), access to them for an interview, and whether or not they advertised on LIVE! The latter criterion may appear to be a venal endeavor. However, I truly believe that business leaders advertise on LIVE! more than anywhere else. --Joe Hyde, Publisher

The Higher Calling: Why and Where Religion Fits in the Workplace
When tragedy strikes in the workplace, these typically secular institutions quickly become prayer altars and mourning pillars. “Every time I deal with death in workplace… people talk about being angry at God,” says Rev. Dr. Diana Dale, executive director of the National Institute of Business & Industrial Chaplains. “But they have to go through that because it’s part of their human, social, and religious upbringing.”
