Affordable hunting land?

By Computer Speakers - Posted on August 31st, 2008

Does anyone know of a landowner who offers day hunting at an affordable price here in town? I'm not a trophy hunter, so paying several hundred dollars to get on a lease around here isn't feasible, let alone within my budget. Maybe someone who allows military to hunt a little cheaper, or will trade manual labor for a chance to hunt? I paid for the Federal Permit, and I can hunt on the base, but like to have all the options I can afford. Thanks!

Did you know that you can

Did you know that you can hunt in Amistad National Park land? I don't know all the rules but check with them. There is some very good land available for day hunters north of the Box Canyon turn off. The park people will tell you how you can use it and help you with the rules.
Another option available.

"CT" is right, "Speakers."

"CT" is right, "Speakers."  Amistad National Recreation Area has five parcels dubbed Hunt Areas 1-5.  Hunting on the park is archery only, except for bird shot for upland game birds and waterfowl.  The NPS Web site below will give you details as well as good, clear maps.

Call the Amistad National Recreation Area visitor center if you still have questions, 830-775-7491. Just press zero when the obnoxious "telephone tree" message begins.  You might get lucky and be able to talk to a real person.

Let us know if you have some success with your hunt.  Good luck.

Sorry 'bout that; I should

Sorry 'bout that; I should have been more clear. That's what I meant when I said I paid for the federal permit. I think it's awesome that they let us hunt out there, and for only $20! I did spend several hours trudging through the cactus and purple sage out there for my one dove this opening day, but it was great all the same! Can't wait to go back! Thanks for the quick replies!
