Hats off
We have all seen him. The Gentleman that walks up and down Veterans Blvd. pushing his wagon and lawnmower. Always cleaning and working. Well this man is an extraordinary person. I do not know who he is but my hat goes off to him and this is why I comment on him. On August 27, 2008 me and my family were traveling down on Veterans Boulevard and at the intersection of Cantu and Veterans was this man with his wagon and lawn mower. What happend next brought a sense of great pride not for me but for him. This man saw that another disabled man was trying to cross from the gas station to the Ramada side. When it was time to cross this man stopped what he was doing and assisted the other man cross safely, because their walking was slow he signaled for cars to wait, and after they safely made it across he returned and continued his business...I wanted to share this with all readers of LIVE, I felt you would appreciate where I am coming from.

Indeed this man is a role
Indeed this man is a role model for all citizens. I've seen him since I was a young boy and to this day I didn't know who he was. All I knew is that he had more lawn mowers than my dad. lol.
Sad that I don't recall the DRNH every writing a story about him. We should contact the national media or something to tell his story. It's something I would like to hear and would like the rest of the nation to hear too!
I remember reading an
I remember reading an article about him several years ago. It had to have been in the DRNH. I remember it said he had hopes of attending a technical school some day.
In our screwed up world
In our screwed up world indeed this man beats by his on drum and has marching orders which he follows daily. Has the DRNH ever really wanted GOOD NEWS? I think it lost it's edge and if it is not front page news forget it anyway. GOOD NEWS too is something so many national media outlets just don't want to do but they would rather beat up a 17 year old girl for beening five months pregant. Crossing the line of OFF LIMITS and THANKS to OBAMA for his statement it is too OFF LIMITS.
I wish I was still beating
I wish I was still beating the streets of Del Rio more regularly. And now I'm ashame of myself for NOT making it a point to meet this man. In this fast crazy world we forget to reach out to mankind. But it seems JESUS is his mentor already. And I'm sure I would be Blessed to know the rest of the story.
Hey would someone PLEASE stop and get this man's name and oh Yes LIVE this might be a interesting story... just when we all need a break from all the conventions...
PEACE, LOVE and FAVOR

I agree someone does need to
I agree someone does need to recognize this gentleman for all of his efforts.
I wrote the DRNH applausing
I wrote the DRNH applausing this gentlemen and that soeone needs to recognize his efforts. No feedback or response. Not surprising...but very disappointing..
Here is his story as I
Here is his story as I understand it. First off let me drop off a sheet anchor here and say that I heard this from my Father so I don't have personal knowledge of it's veracity.
The gentleman in question is an interesting individual indeed. He was and is special needs. And in fact to this day cannot take a regular job. When he was younger his mother taught him that he bore a burden to help others as he was helped and the way to pay back all the public assistance that he received during his upbringing was to get out there and do something about it. In addition she knew that she needed to keep him active and healthy and that she wouldn't be here forever. So she contacted a number of businesses [I don't know which ones or even if the arrangement continues to this day] to pay him for mowing their grass. But in addition he will of his own accord stop and mow various patches that he seems to believe need it. Conversely I've seen him walk right past some pretty tall weeds so I don't know what his internal qualifications are for mowing something.
Anyway, It's been quite some time know [well over a decade I believe] and he's still at it.
On a side note I would truly hate to hear that I am wrong in my understanding of this because I've always thought it to be quite a wondrous thing to have [in this day and age] someone teaching their kid that they have a debt to society and not the other way around.
