Help with some local advice
By azisok - Posted on August 28th, 2008
I've searched pretty much all over for some help with locating a good dentist in Acuna. My wife and I recently retired and have been priced out of the market for U.S. dentists($1600 for one root canal). Is there anyone here who would suggest one of the dentists in Acuna that they, family, or friends have used. We used to live in Tucson and went to Nogales pretty often but never a dentist. We now live in Oklahoma and are planning to visit son in Dallas and then on out to West Texas for vacation.
Sorry, if this has been asked before or is not an appropriate place to ask but I went thru all the past posts and found nothing.
Thanks very much for any and all help.

NO, NO, NO, and yes I am
NO, NO, NO, and yes I am yelling. You are required to have a government issued I.D. ie, a driver license, it also needs to be accompanied with your ORIGNIAL birth certificate, not a photo copy. Copies are not accepted at all. Trust me on this one. If you dont have a passport dont worry. With these two things you are okay. Next summer 2009 passport requirement unless the law changes again.
I work in Mexico on a daily
I work in Mexico on a daily basis and have been crossing thr border for the past 25 years on a daily basis. For the present if you have a COPY of your bc and a government issued picture ID you can cross back into the US. I used a copy of my BC for several weeks while I renewed my passport and applied for a passport card. If you only want to cross into and out of Mexico you can apply for a passport card at a cost of $20.00 it is to be used only for land travel between Mexico and the US or Canada and the US it is not to be used for air travel into the US from other countries for that you will need a passport. Shortly, it will be necessary to have either a passport or a passport card to enter the US from Mexico, I think it will happen Jan of 09 but I am not sure of that date. If in doubt stop before you exit the US and ask immigration if the copy you have will work. I do know that an origional is not necessary since mine is a copy and several vistors to my plant have used copies to cross, we asked before we exited the US.
I just want to say thanks to
I just want to say thanks to all for your information on dentists in Acuna. You've made my day! My wife and I hope to be in Del Rio in the next few weeks(as soon as we get our passports). Between now and then I will be talking to the dentists recommended. You've made my first impression of Del Rio a very positive one and I know I will enjoy being a tourist in your city.
Thanks again for your kindness.
You can use your birth
You can use your birth certificates to cross until next summer if that helps you any. They will accept a copy of it.
Am I wrong that you can
Am I wrong that you can still go back and forth on your birth certificate? We use an expired passport to cross over and will renew it soon.
Hope you enjoy Del Rio when you come.
Yes you can until next
Yes you can until next summer. Then they will have some sort of 'passport', just for Mexico and Canada I believe that will only run you 45 dollars. You won't have to have one of those hefty passports. And the guy at the entry said you can use a copy of your BC.
Thanks everyone, to be on
Thanks everyone, to be on the safe side, I just talked to the Naturalization & Immigration Office there in Del Rio. She confirmed that a copy of your Birth Certificate along with a valid driver's license will work fine. They have moved the passport requirement date to June 2009 because of all the delays in getting passports.
This is great and will allow me to go ahead and make an appointment and get on with my plans. Hope to be there soon...have a great week everyone!
Great dentist. Speaks
Great dentist. Speaks engish VERY cheap, easy to find and I've had her do my family for years. Her name is Dr. Lidia E. Holguin. US number is 469-9175. Mexico number is 01-152 (877) 772-6173. Adress is Bravo #40.
When you enter mexico, turn left, don't go down the main drag. Turn left where you the OXXO store. You'll come to a stop sign. Go past that up about 2 blocks and she's on the right side, organsih building. Across the street you'll find a clinc and the pharmacy Benivedos. When you leave. You take it back out to the stop sign and turn right and the bridge to leave is right there.
So far....she's beat the prices I've ever gone to in Mexico. Son is going to need braces, her brother works there too. He's an orthodontist. Here is the us, the braces are going to cost me 4500-6000 depending on who I go to. His price is 1500, and you make payments every monnth of 50 when you go and have them tighten. Can't beat that.
Had 3 cavitites and 3 teeth extracted from kids. Cost me 175. Got quotes here just for fun, cavities were almost 75 a piece and each tooth was going to run 250.
Had my root canal done there and it was 400. Beats the 2300 US wanted to charge me.
Hope this helps.
