I'd like a new theater not
I'd like a new theater not attached to the plaza.
In most cases, eight screens is fine...I'd just like stadium seating and the feeling I'm going to the movies. The screens and equipment here are behind the times.
They do gouge fairly well at the concessions, but that is the same no matter where you go.
Then again...getting into the movies here is cheaper than most places.
I think I paid 7.50 for an early show while I was out of town recently. However, seeing Wall-E presented digital in comfy stadium seating made it more than worth it to me.
STADIUM SEATING!!!!! WITH
STADIUM SEATING!!!!! WITH SEATS YOU CAN REST YOUR HEAD ON!!!!!
Changes in the film wouldn't
Changes in the film wouldn't change my going to the movies much, but a change in theaters would. I rarely go to this one we have because the flims are almost always off centered, the sound is just turned up, not mixed in a 5.1 surround like it should be, and I hate how some of the lights stay on up by the screen. If this theater went digital it might make a change in my movie going habits. Oh yeah, get rid of those God awful chairs! I back and butt usually go numb after 30 mins or so because of them.
All out price gouging... the
All out price gouging... the concession stand prices are inline with our gas stations...
Here's one for you. Take the old movie theater on Cantu and make it into a Sun Dance film theater and show the foreign and classic movies there with the gourmet coffees wines and light food. Make it 21 and older..
There is room for a film society in Del Rio...

Oh Yeah, I love that Idea.
Oh Yeah, I love that Idea. Dinner and a Movie would be nice. There is nothing like seeing Grease or the Rocky Horror Picture show with a bunch of like minded aficionados.
Actually the smell that has become pervasive in our local Theater is becoming quite obnoxious. They either need to do a really good cleaning or febreeze the whole danged place regularly. I know they clean the place. Heck you could almost eat off of any given surface in their restrooms [and that's saying something], but I guess they are loosing the battle against their customers slovenly ways in the actual theaters.
I hate to say it but I think I understand why the theater charges so much for their food. The reason I "think" I know is from being forced to watch an episode of Oprah. Yeah Yeah I know. Anyway she had the CEO's of like four of the Major theater chains there. And she cornered them about ticket prices and food prices. First off they said that ticket prices are set by the movie company not the theater company's and are set regionally, however I have to say that at that point they all became a little evasive. Then they all explained that 75% of the money made by each location comes from the concession stand. This has to pay for employee's, utility's, insurance, product and insurance. The rest of the money comes from advertising revenue. They make almost nothing on the ticket sales, there was something about matinee income being different but I can't remember, anyway It all supposedly goes to the filmmaker. Oh they said they used to make money on the interest on the monies from the ticket sales when they had 4 to 6 weeks to turn the money over. But George Lucas started a new industry policy of only having one week or so to turn it over so that stream of revenue was cut off. Something about they had to all agree to it or he wouldn't let them show Episode III when it came out. Whew, talk about cut throat.
