City Hall Red Tape
I have been resident of Del Rio for the past 12 years. Recently I moved from one home to another. While changing my services at City Hall I was asked for proof that I owned the residence in which I was moving in to with a "deed" or proof from the Apppraisal district, along with this they wanted my driver license number and my social security number. I do not know why they need such personal information. I am not applying for credit, the city must provide me and us service we pay taxes and I pay monthly for these services. I would like for Mr. Wrob and Mr. Valdez to address or revoke this requirement. I voted for you both and you are my voice I am sure this is not something the citizens of Del Rio are aware of and should be taken off as requirements to open or transfer utitilies. I provided the proof of ownership and my D.L number but I will not part with my SS number and still have not.

Okay, here we go again with
Okay, here we go again with more or I should say less service. I have trimmed my trees and have a pile that is approximatley 6 feet in height and around 15 feet in diameter. I called the city to have them picked up and they said they do not do limb pick up that I must call Moore service for the pick up. I call Moore service and the say they will pick it up in two weeks. My limbs have been on the street for 1 week and now they will be out another two weeks. I spoke to the Mayor and he said that it is Moores service job to pick up limbs and City manager called to tell me the same thing, that they will pick up my limbs in two weeks. The city has a claw truck but it is broken and no plans to repair it, it sits on the lot by the weather station. If Moore service picks up once a month they need to put out what day of the month they pick up so to avoid ugly neighborhoods, this is poor service that the City of Del Rio offers, like Mr. Wrob said the city wants to be more customer friendly but does everything it can to make sure its citizens do not get their tax payers worth. Recently I traveled to Acuna and saw something so emberassing to me. I saw a shiny white and green colored brand new trash trucks picking up their city trash and their is no comparison to the ones the City of Del Rio and Moore servie provide. The new waste management contract must be given to a better more professional company that can provide the service. I will have to haul my own limbs, and oh I must not forget my water bill, driver license and maybe even a FBI check now to make sure I am who I claim to be.........Del Rio Government! what a fiasco.
I have addressed this in the
I have addressed this in the past and have not gotten very far with it. It is my opinion that signing up for gas and water should be no more difficult than signing up for electric, phone, or cable tv. You do not have to go in person to sign up for those services and you don't need to provide as much information as the city requires.
The answer has been that the city can't afford bad debt as much as these larger entities can. That's nonsense, no well run company large or small can afford bad debt. What are they doing differently than we are? The second thing that crosses my mind is that all the extra work we're doing may cost more than the few extra deadbeats we'd have to deal with. I think a better approach would be more aggressive and expedient action when somebody falls behind. However, I am only one vote, you need to work on the other council members.
Attaboy, Mike. This is the
Attaboy, Mike. This is the kind of straight-from-the-shoulder, no nonsense approach that got you elected and re-elected.
Is it possible that the city's bureaucracy can get away with this arrogance because they have - dare I say it? - a monopoly on providing gas and water?
There's been a lot of talk about making those departments more customer-oriented, but there's apparently a long way to go. What a novel idea you offer, that better customer service might actually yield greater efficiency! If nothing else, it would have a calming effect on customers frustrated by the void of any alternative.
Recently, I've heard from a number of homeowners on the north end lamenting what they see as colossal waste of putting gas lines in where there's no demand. Could their reluctance to consider switching to gas appliances have anything to do with not wanting to deal with the city any more than they have to?

Actually yes, essentially
Actually yes, essentially you are applying for credit. The City will be providing you with a month of services with the understanding that you will pay for it after words.
In addition it is my understanding that the City must make certain utility services [available] but they are under no onus to provide them. That would give a connotation of provision whether or not someone paid for them.
What requirements does the
What requirements does the city take from the illegal aliens that are living and obtaining services in del rio that do not have driver license or social security number, are they accepting fraudulent ones.
