Preparations are in full swing for the Annual Spring Judged Art Show sponsored by the Del Rio Art League. This art competition has been held yearly since 1955, and artists of all ages are invited to participate. Also following in yearly tradition, a professional artist is invited to judge the artwork, and this year's judge is Imogene Luhrman of San Antonio. This competitive art show will be held on May 2 at 6:30 p.m., at the Firehouse Art Gallery and will coincide with the First Friday Art Walk.
The Spring Judged Art Show provides local artists an opportunity to exhibit their artwork in a gallery setting for a month, as well as an opportunity to sell their work. Artists can participate in three divisions: Master, Beginner, and Junior Artists. The Junior Division is divided in three categories -- C1: grades 3, 4, 5; C2: grades 6, 7, 8; and C3: grades 9, 10, 11, 12. Cash prizes and ribbons are awarded in all divisions.
Participating artists can chose their media from a wide range: oil and acrylic on canvas or hard support; watercolor and acrylic on paper; graphics, pencil, charcoal, ink, colored pencil; pastels; ceramics; sculptures; mixed media - collage or any mix of media; and miniatures - no larger than 5x7 (35 sq. inch all media). This year two more media categories have been added: fiber arts (no larger than 35"x35") and photography.
Entry forms can be obtained in Del Rio at The Firehouse, Casa de la Cultura, Warren Studio, Diamond Salon, Pam Bunch's Studio, Amistad Florist, and Vevilu Art and Frame Gallery. Artists in the surrounding areas can call Jane at 830-774-1678 or Gloria at 830-719-1471 for an entry form.
