Amistad Lake Resort's restaurant and tavern reinvented with flair

It’s called Michael Bonnee’s Waypoint Cantina and Southwest Grill, but most folks will probably remember it simply as “Waypoint.” Friday night (Feb. 1), the Red Carpet Ambassadors of the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce helped Bonnee and his staff properly and grandly open the eatery and watering hole.
Bonnee boasts that his “eclectic Southwestern eatery is the only full-service lakeview restaurant in Del Rio.” The cantina’s menu of tequilas includes 40 branded bottles, and 43 wines. Thirty of those wines comprise what Bonnee characterizes as “the largest selection of wine-by-the-glass in Del Rio.”
To best serve the fishing clientele that frequents Amistad Lake Resort, the Southwest Grill opens for breakfast at 5 a.m. each morning, closing at 10 a.m. The breakfast buffet features build-your-own breakfast tacos, biscuits-and-gravy, and made-to-order omelets, pancakes, and French toast.
Dinner entrees in the Southwest Grill includes a large menu, with specialties such as jalapeño lime-grilled chicken, grilled salmon with cilantro lime butter, spicy fried chicken with green chile, steaks, stacked Tex-Mex enchiladas, and Byron’s fish tacos.
Dinner is served! At 5 p.m., both the cantina and the grill welcome customers. The Southwest Grill remains open until 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and until 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The Waypoint Cantina is open for service, Monday through Saturday, 5 p.m. until closing time, gauged by customer traffic.
Michael’s Waypoint Cantina and Southwest Grill is found on the east (northbound) side of U.S. Highway 90 West, about eight miles north of Del Rio. You may view the menu, drink specials, and learn more at www.waypointcantina.com.

As a frequent visitor of Carusco's, I have given Waypoint a shot. The food is FANTASTIC! It's not exactly what I would term as "Mexican", but more southwestern. The steaks are the same, and I love that! The atmosphere has been worked on and it has a little character. The boat sticking out of the side of the building is great! They have rockin' margarita's and an insanely large tequila selection.... and so this has made monday's my favorite day ... Margarita Monday (1/2 off all margaritas!)
Maybe I'll see some of you out there!

Oh I am, she is the reason I've well expanded my horizons. :) I keep telling here to
stop cooking and she just keeps telling me to stop eating. Mutually exclusive goals
here.

I do have one question that's been eating at me for awhile, [pun intended]
and that is; Does anyone have a count on the number of Mexican Food Restaurants
Drive In's, Drive By's and just plain eateries that we have here? It's going
to be real interesting to hear the Chambers statistics on tourism this year.
We seem to have just a few more restaurants than the size of our community
would usually dictate :)It sure makes it hard to come home and cook when I
have all these choices. Of course with my wifes cooking it's usually a decision
based wholly upon whether it's my night to wash dishes or not :)
