Day 6 of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Sees Del Rio's own Hutto Move Ahead

In 7.4 seconds, Del Rio, Texas professional roper Houston Hutto split the sixth go-round in the roping at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo with Josh Peek, Pueblo, Colo., and pocketed $14,675. For those not into rodeo, that means he tied for first place.

The run however had repercussions much deeper than the go-round co-win. With the 7.4 second run, Hutto propelled himself from seventh in the WNFR average to third and, moved from third to first place for the Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association tie-down world championship. The fast tie moved him past front runner Trevor Brazile, Decatur, Texas, by $1,540.36. With 4 more go-rounds left, Wednesday thru Saturday, the excitement will provide nail biting for rodeo fans as the count down to world championships continues.

The WNFR tie-down standings at the conclusion of the 6th go-round on six calves are as follows:

1. Cody Ohl, Hico, Texas 49.7
2. Stran Smith, Childress, Texas 56.0
3. Houston Hutto, Del Rio, Texas 59.8
4. Matt Shiozawa, Chubbuck, Idaho 60.9
5. Clint Cooper, Decatur, Texas 61.0
6. Josh Peek, Pueblo, Colorado 61.1
7. Trevor Brazile, Decatur, Texas 62.7
8. Jerome Schneeberger, Ponca City, Oklahoma 63.2
9. Mike Johnson, Henryetta, Oklahoma 65.4
10. Nate Baldwin, Blackfoot, Idaho 91.2

Four men have gone out of the average because they have taken a no-time on one or more calves during the first six rounds. The most costly came last night when Hunter Herrin, Apache, Oklahoma, missed with his first loop. He had already dismounted his horse, had to re-mount and take a chance with his second loop. The cast of the second loop missed and he went out of the average. Until that point he was second in the average.

In other events, Sean Mulligan, Coleman, Oklahoma won the steer wrestling round with 3.2 seconds; team ropers Colter Todd, Marana, Ariz.,/Cesar de la Cruz, Tucson, Ariz., were 4.4 for their round win; bareback rider Tom McFarland, Wickenburg, Ariz., rode Classic Pro Rodeo’s Scarlet’s Web for 88.5 to capture first; Rusty Allen, Lehi, Utah, won the saddle bronc riding with 86.5 on Bar T’s Rodeo’s Round Robin, Jill Moody, Letcher, S.D., was a rapid 13.64 for her win in barrel racing; Ted Bert, Modesto, Calif., marked 87 points on Shake Down, owned by Four Star Rodeo for his first place finish.
