moving to del rio
By joi page - Posted on May 18th, 2007
Hi, I am a "newbe" to this forum. My husband, and I and our little miniture dachshund are moving to Del Rio as soon as we can find the money. I have been diagnosed with "breast cancer metastised to the bone." We are moving to Del Rio so I can recieve treatment at Cancer End and Saint Joseph Medical Center. Does anyone know of these places?
We are also looking for a townhome, duplex, 4 to 6 unit apartment, or home to rent permanently. I have searched on the internet but can not find what we want. We are moving without furniture, so something furnished would be ok, unless Del Rio has a thrift furniture store. We need a fenced in yard for our puppy, and a pool. Something with laundry facilities.
Can anyone in Del Rio give us advice on this post? We would really appreciate it. Joi

Joi, I just came upon your letter and wanted to let you know that I have a beautiful 3 bedroom/3 bathroom home (2 years old) with a fenced in yard all appliances included except the washer and dryer, but ther are hook ups in the house. However it is unfurnished but you will be able to find deals in Del Rio. If you or anyone else may be interested in renting/leasing or puchasing please respond back...I have done this in the past for a co-worker with cancer. I have to ask for $1250.00 per month, that will cover mortgage payment only.
Hello, Nancy V again, I
Hello, Nancy V again, I forgot to leave my contack information, my phone is 330-631-9592, I look forward to speaking with you soon.
Hey, Nancy I am in Del Rio
Hey, Nancy I am in Del Rio at this very moment, my family is in need of a place until the end of July. We looked at Stonegate and their place that is furnished is taken, and they will not let another place be used for only a month. I am wondering if you have rented your place and if so can you recommend any others. My wife has been attending the Saint Josephs Medical Center in Acuna and it has all been positive thus far. To the other family I am sorry for your loss and our hearts go out to you and your family in the loss of your Mother/Grandmother/Sister and Friend.
Blessings to all who read.

Just a thought, where do the
Just a thought, where do the winter Texans stay when they are here? They are short term renters. Maybe somebody can help you with that information. I hope your wife does well in her treatment.
Chuck, It's my understanding
Chuck, It's my understanding that most if not all of the Winter Texans bring their homes with them and stay at the RV Parks. To hazard a guess the best place that someone can go to find info on short term leases would be the Chamber of Commerce. http://www.drchamber.com/
Joi, Just wondering if you
Joi,
Just wondering if you ever made it to Del Rio to receive the treatments and if they worked. Hoping that everything went well. Are you still in Del Rio? I'd like to know first of all how you are doing, but also to see if the treatments really work. Someone in my family was diagnosed with cancer and I suggested they look into Cancer End. There are testimonials on their website, but I'd like to hear from a real person if they actually work. Anyway, if you see this would you let me know.
Thank you and God bless.
My Mother, Yvonne Grace
My Mother, Yvonne Grace Hassell, went to St. Joseph's Medical Center located across the Texas border in Mexico and died several months after returning. She returned home with some vaporizer "stuff" and a bottle of this brown, putrid smelling and tasting liquid. Mom’s MRI, CAT and PET scans indicated that there was no curative effect from the treatments received at St. Joseph’s Medical Center as the tumors had grown significantly during the 2 months of treatments provided. Diagnosed in February 2007, my Mom passed on June 17, 2007. Most of my family (who are from Wisconsin) was absolutely against her going—not wanting to lose the precious time remaining and eager to do what was best. Those opposed felt it would waste precious time and that Mom would effectively not be receiving any treatment. This caused some difficulty, as there is almost no objective information about St. Joseph's Medical Center and their advertised treatments. I had a coworker's husband who is from Mexico contact the local hospital and police department, but they just confirmed the clinic’s existence (it looks kind of like a strip mall). Their advertising is ubiquitous on the web. Their ads pervade the internet touting cures for any type of cancer! Unfortunately, desperation easily drew in several of my sisters, despite the obviously fallacious name of the “medicine” that cured every type of cancer: Cancer End. However, ultimately, it was my mom's decision—she wanted to live! Although, I sometimes think she went for a vacation. While not being discouraging and recognizing our family’s belief that the power of faith cannot be discounted in helping lift one's spirits and heal, her doctors, including her oncologists, did not discourage her traveling to Mexico (actually she stayed in Texas and took a prearranged shuttle to the clinic across the border into Mexico). Mom’s local Doctors recommended that she receive palliative care that included pain medication, and small dose radiation for her tumors that originated in her lungs and eventually spread to her lymph nodes, kidneys and brain in order to enhance her quality of life for whatever time she had left. Once she returned home, she began the conventional treatment and palliative care originally recommended and it helped somewhat in her last few months. Please have faith in God's will and not a marketing campaign designed to take advantage of a desperate situation. Mom I love and miss you.
hhassell, I'm so sorry for
hhassell,
I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother, Yvonne Grace, my prayers are with you and your family.
God Bless

For anyone interested in
For anyone interested in renting in Del Rio, don't forget to check with the Remax or C21 offices in town. They have a list of houses, condos, duplexes, 4-plexes, etc for rent. They don't just buy & sell houses. They also manage properties for investors. FYI...in TX, professional property managers HAVE to be licensed real estate agents.

The place she is referring to is in Acuna, they have people from all over the world coming here, don't really know anything else but they must have a reputation to attract the people. From what i understand they use treatment types not approved here in the US. They have a bus you see around town that shuttles patients back and forth.

Just a couple of days ago I saw that bus with a big billboard on it's side with the St. Joseph's in Acuna advertisement. I never knew it even existed but I guess it does.

I have never heard of the medical center in Del Rio or Mexico But I do go to Mexico for my medical needs. Try Amistad Realty for your housing needs 830 778 5555. Prayer works wonders.
Joi, I've heard of Cancer
Joi,
I've heard of Cancer End and St. Joseph Medical Center. They are actually just over the border from Del Rio in Mexico. I think they have a bus that takes people there and back every day. You might ask when you get here. I don't know much about the clinic other than people come from all over the world. You probably already know, but just in case here is their website: http://alternativecancertreatmentclinic.com/ I pray that it helps you and you are cancer free when you finish the treatment. Other than the apartments already listed, there is a woman who has a few furnished apartments for rent. I don't know if she has any available, but you can call her to find out. Her name is Anna and her phone number is 830-719-2503 or her e-mail is ceniza_7@yahoo.com. Hope this is helpful.
Dear Savannah, THANKYOU
Dear Savannah, THANKYOU about you comment about Cancer End. I have researched it and have been in touch with them, but when no one had heard of them (on the forum) I got a bit worried that someone was going to play with my health. I believe in them, but when I couldn't get feedback I started thibking I was being scammed. You helped restore my faith! And as far as the laby with the apartments, I will definately contact her. We have decided to stay at The Regency for afew weeks and have agents walk us through some places. It is impossible to rent from here in Arkansas, bacause all the real estate people contacting my email aren't even in Del Rio! So THANYOU again Savannah!!! Should I mention your name? Boy if most people in Del Rio are as nice as you, we may never leave!! Hope to meet you someday!
Blessings, Joi
You're welcome. When I read
You're welcome. When I read the responses to your post and realized that nobody knew where this place was I knew I had to respond to you. I can't say I know much about the clinic, but I do know it is a real place. My husband went there about a month ago for business reasons. I sincerely hope and pray that it works for you.
You can mention my name - it isn't my real name anyway (he he).
Most people in Del Rio are really nice. There are a lot of really good people here. Del Rio is a small (not too small) town and it seems like everybody knows everybody here - that makes it nice. You know that old show "Cheers". It's like that. When you go into a restaurant before you can get to your seat you have to stop and say hello to 4 or 5 groups of people before you can sit down. Then wave at a couple more before you leave.
I'd like to meet you too when you come to Del Rio. And if you need anything when you get here I'd like to help if I can. If you want you can e-mail me at my personal e-mail instead of this forum. My address is jen33@stx.rr.com (just don't give that out) ha! ha!

Wow, that's interesting, Google has them located near Houston. It's too bad their website doesn't have more information about their location, etc...other than to say to call their number to find out more. Why is this place so secretive?
Hi there, I am not sure on
Hi there, I am not sure on this, and do not want to make trouble, but i had questions about Saint Joseph Medical Center also. I know is is not in Del Rio. I figure and this is a guess, that SJMC is the hospital Center End runs insurance through, and payments, etc. and is there to uphold the "alternitive care" that is not legal in the US, but is legal in Acuna, Mexico. That is what i came up with. I have talked to several x-patients and they are quite happy. One man had all this tumors disolved and the doctors can not see any malignancy. Another womman has been is remmission for many rears. My husband ans I actually retired to Belize in June of 2005 and by September I could not walk without pain. That is how we ended up (friends here)in Arkansas. So I am in the fight of my life to survive and get back to Belize to live out my dreams by the sea for the rest of my years. When I succeed in the treatments and I an allowed to go back home, I will let you know where you can find us in Belize and you all can enjoy a cold one at our bar.

Joi, I just looked up Saint Joseph Medical Center with the CancerEnd program you are mentioning for your cancer care, and they are located in the Bellaire, TX (right near Houston), which is in South East Texas....Del Rio is in South West Texas and roughly 6 hours from Houston. Not entirely sure why you would want to move to Del Rio for this, seems like you'd want to move closer to there?
Not to mention that the few people I know of personally who have had cancer ended up needing to get treatment in San Antonio. Hope this all helps you.

Joi, I haven't heard of the two places that you have listed "at least here locally". The only St Joseph's that I have heard of is in Maryland. What we do have is the Rio Bravo Cancer and Blood Center at 830-775-5800. Dr. Taylor is the doc there and she is good.
We do have a "Hospice Bargain Box". They are located in dowtown Del Rio. They are open on Saturdays and yes they have furniture. Sometimes some really nice stuff, if you are in need of something specific just tell them and they will call you if they receive it. They really are here to help.

Joi,
I've been here in Del Rio since last August and don't recall hearing of either place, Cancer End or Saint Joseph Medical Center. We have a small hospital here called Val Verde Regional Medical Center and a few Dr. Offices or specialty clinics. I remember hearing of a new clinic opening here but cant' remember the name off hand. Maybe someone else can provide some more info than I can. There are a few furniture stores here but I can't recall seeing a thrift store or thrift furniture store? There are some nice apartments to rent and some are furnished I believe? Wish I could help you out more. I did answer your other post you made.
When you do move here I wish you a hearty welcome.

With the condition you describe, please contact Dr. Susan Taylor, our only oncologist here. She is a splendid, capable, and compassionate physician, and will advise you on any aspect of cancer treatment options, including her own. Her office, Rio Bravo Cancer and Blood Clinic, may be reached at 830-775-5800. I've covered medical issues with her advice, and have the utmost respect for her and the entire staff. Best wishes to you.
