Singer Freddy Fender dies Freddy Fender, the "Bebop Kid" of the Texas-Mexico border who turned his twangy tenor into the 1975 hits "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" and "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights" died Saturday. He was 69. Fender had been diagnosed with lung cancer and died at home in Corpus Christi, Texas, with his family at his bedside. Sad news indeed.
