Last school year, there were 41 pregnant students enrolled in the Life Skills for Students Parents in Del Rio's local school district. That's 41 out of around 3,000 including middle and high school students. What is being done to combat teen pregnancies in the region?

They piece things together -- whether it's a small scrap or a large strip of fabric. The Amistad Quilters use their talents, special techniques and imagination to create quilts for themselves, family members and friends. Many times these "fabric-aholics" make quilts for strangers and charities that offer comfort through a quilt made with loving hands.

Enforcement activities by U. S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Sector, resulted in the seizure of 915 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated value of $732,624, over the past weekend.

Fireworks and frank discussions occurred when two pairs of candidates for Del Rio city government squared off Thursday evening at the Kennedy Room of the Del Rio Civic Center for a lively debate sponsored by the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce and Southwest Texas LIVE! There were 83 citizens in attendance.

In conjunction with Earth Day, April 22, Rio Grande Electric Co-op will debut CFL Recycling Collection Stations in each of its six area offices. This service is available to not only RGEC member-consumers, but anyone who has used, unbroken CFL bulbs.

The City of Del Rio invites you to join volunteers in helping rid the city of litter and trash, Saturday, April 19.  Four locations are available for signup: Buena Vista Park Pavilion, Del Rio Civic Center, Greenwood Park and at the American GI Forum hall.  Protective gloves, bags for the trash, orange safety vests and bottles of water will be provided to each volunteer.
